2026-08-14. Stainless steel water bottle by Owala.Model: FreeSipSize: 24ozColor: Black CherryAfter going through several other branded water bottles in record time, I finally decided that I needed to bite the bullet and pay for a reputable one that would have quality to it. Owala is Amazon's most successful water bottle brand and the number of positive reviews makes it near impossible to refute.Well, that's all relative... after spending many hours combing through other's reviews, there was a common theme that stuck out, many had indicated that they "babied" their Owala. This is a stainless steel water bottle, not a piece of fine bone China; why should you need to "Baby" it? Another common complaint was the lid which is of poor quality, either with the button or the seals developing mold. The mold issue could easily be prevented simply be removing the silicone gasket while cleaning, or by keeping the use of the bottle to just water, but again, why should one have such limitation when cheap $5 plastic water bottles can handle it? The button issue is legit and a Engineering design flaw in my opinion. Luckily for me, my button works just fine and stays on.I ordered this water bottle in particular for several reasons. First is the shape, I'm on the petite side of things, and Petite is a proportion not a size, much like a kid that never grew up. My proportionally sized hands are naturally smaller and this water bottle has a couple of flat sides for better grip and easier handling. Next was the water capacity. I didn't need some ginormous bottle as my smaller frame doesn't require it; besides, it's easier on my smaller bladder and I won't have to visit the loo every hour. The 24oz capacity was perfect for me to last throughout the school day. Lastly, I absolutely love the versatility of the FreeSip model. The mouth of this model is actually separated into two. The bottom of the mouth has a straw attached to it and allows you to take sips of water. The upper mouth is just open for free flowing water should you want to "chug" it on those really hot days. At first I thought it would be difficult to use, but I was completely wrong. Sipping was much easier than I expected and leaving the mouth uncovered allowed for air to flow in and not cause the vacuum effect. As noted before, the only thing with Owala is the price, these water bottles are not exactly cheap, and for $30 for a 24oz bottle, I expected more from the quality side of things. My issues are not about performance. To this day all features and functions of the water bottle still work as they should, and I've been using this for water bottle for 7 months now. My issue is with the durability of the water bottle and the aesthetics. To start, I've never dropped this water bottle, and it has a designated place on the outer side pocket of my backpack, you know, the mesh one with the elastic top that is designed to hold water bottles, yeah, that one. Well it has never been in my nature to "Baby" anything; a true testament of quality is to be able to handle real life usage scenarios.Well after 7 months of use my water bottle looks like it has gone through several drops. In several places the paint has scratched off, and the bottom has some dents in it. Keep in mind, I've NEVER dropped this water bottle, and it is either being cleaned, or sitting in my backpack. Remember when I said things should be designed to withstand life? Well that's my philosophy with all things, backpack included. So yeah, sure, I'm not "Babying" that either. I'm not exactly tossing my bag around, but I do pick it up and let it fall to the ground occasionally, but from a height of no more than a foot at most (remember, I'm petite, so the bag is not that far from the ground with my arm fully extended.) To see the damage from what I consider to be normal everyday use (no abuse), check out my pics.Lastly, I did reach out to Owala because one of the other appeals is that they provide a limited lifetime warranty; however, they had indicated that this type of wear and tear is not grounds for a replacement. They had indicated that I should have purchased a silicone boot to further protect it. I purposely didn't want a silicone boot as that is just more to wash and maintain. And if Owala was aware of how easily the paint chips and the bottle dents, they should have included a protective boot as standard equipment.
